Community Memorials

The Victoria Police Ribbon Foundation
doesn't just remember lives...

IT SAVES THEM!

The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation perpetuates the memory of members of the Victoria Police killed in the line of duty by giving financial support to worthwhile community projects within Victoria.

We can do nothing to bring back those police officers who have paid the ultimate price, us as a grateful community, we can take positive steps to honour their memory and ensure their sacrifice is acknowledged through a range of projects that benefit others.

Victorians have shown their affection for this cause by giving overwhelming support to events such as our Raffle and Blue Ribbon Day. But your continued support is crucial to the expansion of the work we've started together so that more projects can be undertaken and we can save more lives by building specialised medical facilities in our hospitals.

Norman Curson ICU-CCU Room

Provides family and friends of patients admitted to ICU & CCU units with a private and comfortable waiting area that includes kitchen, TV and video viewing facilities plus privacy for medical staff to consult.
Named in memory of Senior Constable Norman Curson who was murdered at Flinders Street Station in 1974.

The John McNally Emergency Department

Segeant John McNally was murdered in 1856 at the Mt Ararat Goldfields and became the first member of Victoria Police to be feloniously slain in the line of duty.
The community of Ararat started their own branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation in 2001 and through a series of local fundraising events and financial assistance from the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation established a new emergency department in the recently re-developed Ararat Hospital. The new facilities offer the very latest in modern equipment and emergency care that would otherwise we provided by larger hospitals long distances away. The Ararat community is currently raiing funds to add a helicopter landing pad as part of the emergency department.

The Angela Taylor Child Protection Unit

It's a sad fact of life that children don't always receive the care and love from adults that they should.
The Angela Taylor Child Protection Unit at the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton provides treatment, medicals and councselling to child victims of physical and sexual abuse.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation, through public donations and support, has provided new equipment for this centre along with additional facilities for attending police members so they can better investigate crimes against children and bring offenders to justice.
Constable Angela Taylor was murdered when a car bomb exploded outside the Russell Street Police Complex in 1986 and she became the first policewoman to be slain in the line of duty.
We thank the many people who have contributed to the Blue Ribbon cause and have made it possible for this very appropriate Unit to be established in Angela's memory.

The Silk Miller Trauma Unit

Installed at the Dandenong Hospital, the Silk-Miller Trauma Unit provides emergency treatment and critical care to people living in the south-east corridor of Melbourne and South East Gippsland. It is Victoria's second largest emergency hospital. Proceeds from this year's raffle will be used to complete the Foundation's $350,000 commitment to the Trauma Unit.

The Tynan-Eyre Trauma Unit

For people living in Central & Northern Victoria, a critical condition used to mean a mercy dash to Melbourne. But now, a fully equipped emergency department at Bendigo Hospital plus the Tynan-Eyre Trauma Centre has brought treatment much closer and is saving lives every day.
The Foundation hopes to provide additional funding this year to purchase enhancements for the Trauma Centre.

The Tynan-Eyre Diagnostic Centre

This Centre houses a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit (MRI) and is used to detect a wide range of conditions much earlier than other diagnostic systems such as X-Ray and CT-Scan.

Sterotactic Radiosurgery Unit

The Tynan-Eyre Sterotactic Radiosurgery Unit provides a non-invasive treatment for certain brain tumours and cancers, usually those considered inoperable due to their position or location near vital organs.

Tynan-Eyre Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Is not only giving treatment to sufferers of epilepsy, but is allowing surgeons to cure patients so they can lead full and productive lives.

Angela Taylor Intensive Care Bed

Stephen Henry Emergency Room

Colac Hospital, Victoria
The Stephen Henry Emergency Rescusitation Room was opened in June 2003. It now provides emergency treatment for patients suffering respiratory and heart related conditions. It is named in memory of S/C Stephen Henry who was murdered on the Hume Highway near Seymour in 1982. The Room was officially opened by Chief Commissioner, Christine Nixon along with S/C Henry's parents and family. Funding for this hospital unit came from the local community through fundraising initiated by the Colac Branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation.

Angela Taylor Intensive Care Room

Royal Melbourne Hospital
In 1986 Constable Angela TAYLOR battled for life in the ICU of the Royal Melbourne Hospital after suffering horrific injuries in the Russell Street bombing. Constable Taylor died 23 days later.
As a gift to the Royal Melbourne and the people of Victoria, and as a memorial to Constable Taylor, the Blue Ribbon Foundation funded a Intensive Care Room that can now provide specialised care for very critical patients with areas so that family and loved-ones can remain close by. It was officially opened on December 15th 2003 by Chief Commissioner, Christine Nixon along with Angela's parents.
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation contributed $120,000 towards the purchase of equipment.
