Roll of Honour
Since the formation of the Victoria Police force, 150 members have been killed whilst on duty. Of them 30 have been feloniously slain on duty. The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation perpetuates the memory of all members through it's work with community projects within Victoria.
Members feloniously slain on duty listed by date of death. In 1986 Chief Commissioner Miller ordered the creation of the Victoria Police Honour Roll. A project team was assembled who, between 1986 and 1989 attempted to identify all members of Victoria Police whose deaths had occurred in circumstances that made them eligible for inclusion on the Honour Roll. Exhaustive research was undertaken, and all known records were accessed. However, the incomplete state of the archival material meant that much data was simply unavailable. For this reason the initial reference group were advised that the findings were probably incomplete. It could not be certain they had identified all those cases falling within the criteria for inclusion on the Honour Roll. It was therefore decided that, should further detail be uncovered in the future, each additional case would be judged on its merits, as and when it came to light. Over the last few years the Victoria Police Historical Society has identified a number of cases where it would appear that the police members concerned should be included on the Honour Roll and their recommendations have been upheld by the Honours & Awards Committee for inclusion in 2006.
